Library is a building or room containing collections of books, periodicals, and sometimes films and recorded audio for use or borrowing by the public or the members of an institution.
The primary function of the Library of Congress is to serve the Congress. In addition, the Library provides service to government agencies, other libraries, scholars, and the general public.
The University Library, comprising the Main Library and the College or Unit Libraries, shall have the following main functions: a. Learning spaces: provide open, accessible, and engaging spaces, both physical and virtual, to support individual and collaborative learning and creative and critical thinking.
Mutare Polytechnic is a Government run Technical Vocational Education and Training institution which is under the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education. Mutare Polytechnic is situated in the eastern border town of Mutare , Manicaland, Province. Mutare is Zimbabwe’s gateway to the sea, linking to the Port of Beira along the east cost of Mozambique by rail and road. Mutare Polytechnic at its inception in 1984 was known as Umtali Technical College and its main role was to curtail the shortage of the much needed technical skills that prevailed at that time. Umtali Technical College operated as a satellite college for Salisbury Technical College (now Harare Polytechnic College). It started operating behind OK Bazaars, offering rudimentary courses in secretarial studies. From its commissioning Mutare Polytechnic operated with two functional divisions of Commerce and Engineering which multiplied to 5 divisions, with a student enrolment of slightly over 200.
