How You Can Apply for the Social Relief of Distress Grant
How to Apply for the Social Grant
Social relief of distress is a temporary provision of assistance by the government intended for people unable to meet their family’s most basic needs.
Unfortunately, they don’t have an online application process similar to the R350 social grants. To apply for financial assistance, please visit any of your nearest SASSA offices.
And submit your application with the following documents:
- Certified copy of your ID and Children’s birth certificates
- Affidavit from the police, if you don’t have ID or birth certificates
- And proof that you don’t have any form of income
Your application will be processed immediately and once approved, you’ll get your first month’s relief in a form of food parcels, vouchers, or sometimes cash.
You’ll continue to receive social relief assistance for three months. However, if your situation hasn’t changed since then, you must apply for another three months extension.
What Will You Get?
As discussed above, the social relief of distress may be in the form of:
- Food parcels
- Voucher to buy food
- Or cash
These funds are for your short-term assistance only, usually three months.
