Chinhoyi University of Technology Production Engineering Department

Bachelor of Engineering Honours Degree in Production Engineering

About

The Production Engineering department trains engineers who can design, implement and refine products, services, processes and systems in the manufacturing industries. The primary focus of production engineering programme is to learn on how to turn raw materials into new or improved products. The Bachelor of Engineering Honours degree programme focuses mainly on Design and Maintenance of Production Equipment, Manufacturing Process Planning, Manufacturing Process Control and Tool Management.

Our students are equipped with skills to perform activities related to specification, design, selection, testing and usage of production equipment such as machine tools, presses and hammers, materials handling equipment, robots as well as specification and design of tooling, jigs and fixtures. Production engineers are involved in process planning to determine the manufacturing processes or equipment and tooling to be used. This includes the preparation of NC programs, selection and design of manufacturing processes such as cutting and forming, determination of parameters and also research to improve existing processes and to develop new ones. The activities are all related to the engineering design function the results of which are the drawings of all parts and bill of materials. Production engineering is also extended to production of non-mechanical products (food industry) or mechanical products whose raw materials or part of the semi finished products are in the form of solutions (mineral processing, metallurgical processing and chemical industries).
