Chinhoyi University of Technology Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation
The department is at the forefront of increasing understanding and knowledge of the ecology, conservation, management and sustainable utilization of wildlife populations and their habitats through undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education, research, and extension. Our programs seek to address the challenges of habitat condition deterioration, encroachment, fragmentation, destruction and modification that have seen most wildlife species and populations declining, and their natural distribution range diminishing. Our undergraduate and graduate degree programs seek to capacitate and produce specialized, skilled professionals in wildlife ecology, conservation and management of wildlife as well as ecological restoration programs towards conservation, sustainable use and improved human-wellbeing. Currently, at undergraduate level we offer, a four years Bachelor of Science Honors Degree in Wildlife, Ecology and Conservation. The program offers a unique opportunity for individuals to apply both the primary and secondary objectives of conservation in a manner that fosters sustainability and stewardship of the wildlife heritage. We offer taught Masters-Masters in Biodiversity Conservation which is an 18 months program, Masters by Research and PhD degrees in various fields of wildlife ecology and conservation.

BSc in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation…
The programme is designed to produce a human capital base that will be influential in ecological restoration, conservation, management and sustainable utilisation of wildlife populations as informed by ecological principles and underpinned by research and adaptive management in Zimbabwe and beyond. This programme seeks to address the challenges of habitat condition deterioration, encroachment, fragmentation, destruction and modification that have seen most wildlife species and populations declining, and their natural distribution range diminishing.
The Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation is a four year programme that seek to bring into being specialized, skilled professionals in wildlife ecology, conservation and management as well as ecological restoration programs towards refaunazation and sustainable living. The programme will offer a unique opportunity for individuals to apply both the primary and secondary objectives of conservation in a manner that fosters sustainabilty and stewardship of the wildlife heritage.
Entry types and requirements
Normal Entry
For normal entry the candidate should:-
- Have passed at least 5 subjects at Ordinary Level including Mathematics and English Language
- Have passed any two of the following ‘A’ Level subjects: Biology, Zoology, Botany, Agriculture, Chemistry, Geography, Physics, Mathematics, Food Science or any other relevant and equivalent subjects.
Special Entry
For special entry, candidates should:-
- Have at least 5 subjects at Ordinary Level including Mathematics and English Language.
- Hold at least a National Diploma in Wildlife or other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution of higher learning.
- Candidates should have at least five years of work experience in a relavant organization.
Mature Entry
For mature entry, candidates will be considered as stipulated in the General Regulations.

Course Synopsis
BSc in Environmental Conservation and Geo-informatics
Environmental conservation has increasingly become an important global issue in recent decades due to growing pressure from a number of factors, including increasing human populations, urbanization, land-use and climate change. As environmental concerns become ever more pressing, an understanding on how the environment can be effectively conserved and managed is urgently needed. The need to understand the impact of environmental pressures and effective environmental conservation has necessitated the application of Geo-informatics amongst natural resource managers and environmentalists. This programme provides students with basic Geo-informatics skills, a technology and science that develops or uses information science infrastructure in addressing environmental and natural resource management issues. The use of geo-informatics in environmental conservation leads to productive careers and lifelong learning in which graduates are expected to work cooperatively and communicate effectively in a variety of contexts.
This programme will therefore capacitate students with Geo-informatics technology in addressing environmental challenges of pollution, global warming, natural resources depletion, urban sprawl, waste management, land degradation, land use change and loss of biodiversity. The Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Geo-informatics and Environmental Conservation is a four year programme that seeks to provide specialized skills to professionals in environmental conservation.

Module Structure
MSc in Biodiversity Conservation
The Master of Science Degree in Biodiversity Conservation is a programme meant to satisfy the Zimbabwean and international environmental, socio-cultural, and economic and policy development needs. As part of its mandate Chinhoyi University of Technology proposes to launch this programme which aims at building capacity for the sustainable development of the country and beyond through conservation and management, beneficiation and value addition to the diverse natural resources. Target groups include professionals and technical staff employed in land, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, wildlife, and freshwater resource management activities from public agencies, non-governmental organisations, the private sector and other stakeholders; as well as candidates who wish to pursue careers and also venture into wildlife entrepreneurship in fields such as land and natural resource management, forestry, policy-related areas, agriculture and freshwater resource management.
Entry types and requirements
To be admitted to the Master of Science Degree in Biodiversity Conservation, a candidate must: Be in possession of a relevant honours degree, with at least a 2.1 degree class, in any one of the following disciplines: agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, forestry, geography, natural resources management/conservation, natural sciences, wildlife and safari management or an appropriate social science degree from a recognised university.
General entry requirements as stipulated in the Chinhoyi University of Technology General Postgraduate Admission Regulations shall apply.
