Bachelor of Technology (Honours)Degree in Information Technology

Information Technology is the study, design, development, application, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems. It is also a branch of engineering dealing with the use of computers and telecommunications equipment to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data. The term Information technology commonly refers to computers and computer networks. It goes without saying that Technology has a deep impact on every aspect of our lives and that it changes the way we live, communicate, interact and talk. The graduates of this programme are Information Technologists who shall be prepared to meet the Information Technology needs of business, government, healthcare, schools, and other kinds of organizations and to cause a global Technology revolution.

Programme Objectives

The programme is designed such that on completion, the graduates should be able to:

  • Apply knowledge of Computing and Mathematics appropriate to the discipline and current technical concepts and practices in the core information technologies;
  • Analyze a problem, identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution;
  • Design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs;
  • Analyze the local and global impact of Information technology on individuals, organizations and society and recognise the need for and an ability to engage in continuing professional development
  • Identify and analyze user needs and take them into account in the selection, creation, evaluation and administration of information technology-based systems and effectively integrate IT-based solutions into the user environment.
Programme Structure

Currently, the degree programme is offered on a four year full time regular programme and a four year Parallel programme.

Parallel programme

The Programme is the same as the regular programme,the only difference is that it is delivered in the evenings.

Regular Programme

The programme is a full-time programme of study to honours degree level and is structured to be delivered over four years and comprises approximately 48 weeks of lectures, laboratories, tutorials and systems/software design project work, followed by 30 weeks of internship and then 24 weeks of lectures, tutorials, laboratories and a project.

Third year internship is assessed via a Written internship report; Oral presentation and Assessments from the company of internship.

IT Entry Requirements

Entry Qualifications

Entry requirements for acceptance to this program are:

  • At least two‘A’ level passes including Mathematics and Physics or Computer Science or  any  other relevant science subject OR
  • National Diploma (ND) in Information Technology or equivalent plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience OR
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) in Information Technology or equivalent.
