BSc in Freshwater and Fishery Science

About

There are great opportunities to sustainably harness benefits, increase productivity and efficient use of ecosystem goods and services derived from freshwaters and fisheries of the continent through appropriate management and conservation of these resources. For instance, despite, Zimbabwe’s more than 12,000 dams and a diversity of rivers, lakes and wetlands, wild fisheries in the country, like many parts of Africa, currently do not meet the demand for fish protein. Therefore, there is an opportunity for the use of aquaculture to increase fish production. In addition, the management of water resources is critical to economic growth. It is in this vein that the need to raise Scientists and schools of thought to address impacts and issues arising in the water resources and fisheries sector of Zimbabwe and the African continent was realised. The programme addresses issues of sustainable use of aquatic resources for the benefit of Zimbabwe, the Southern African Region and the continent of Africa as a whole.
