Carreer
The logical approaches, the ability to build and test models in addition to the numerical and problem solving skills, are methodologies which are inherent in any physics degree. These methodologies provide a good fundamental training to a wide range of prospective careers for graduates of the BSc. Honours Degree in Physics.
The more obvious career directions for our graduates include academic and industrial research, working in technology based industries such as electronics, opto-electronics, energy or communications and the critical and growing area of medical physics and technology. The degree prepares graduates to work as material scientists, meteorologists, geophysicists, nanoscientists, medical physicists, optometrists or metrologists to mention a few. Some of the graduates can go into physics-related business as entrepreneurs. Due to their analytical skills, physicists are also in demand in a range of financial, fund management and research roles, in law, management consultancy, computer programming and in a major shortage area, as physics and science educators.
Work placements/international opportunities
As part of your course you will undertake at least eight (8) months of work-related learning in Zimbabwean Physics related organizations. Industrial attachment aims to expose students to real life work processes and an opportunity to apply theoretical concepts and learning to practice in a work-based environment. This also gives students an appreciation of the constraints of working life and functional relationships within and between organizations. It will develop student confidence in a discipline-based working environment and improve student employability.
