Applicants are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following Postgraduate Programmes:
Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Medicine
This program is designed to advance the scientific and technical knowledge and translational capabilities required for drugs discovery, development, manufacturing and deployment in the fight against the persistent challenge of infectious diseases and emerging burden of noncommunicable diseases. Graduates of this program will be able to conduct translational drug discovery research, manufacture medicines, and deploy medicines for public health
solutions, thus enable sub-Saharan Africa to achieve the SDGs and African Union’s Agenda 2063 goals on health and wellbeing.
Entry Requirements:
An honours degree or equivalent in Life Sciences (Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Chemistry or any relevant degree).
Not older than 25 years at the time of commencement in August 2020.
A National and currently resident in the country in one of the five regions of Africa;
North, West, East, Central and Southern.
Possessing English language, spoken and written skills to effectively participate in an
English taught degree program.
Prepared to relocate to Zimbabwe on a full-time basis for 2 years.
Course duration:
Two years full time. The program comprises two taught semesters over 12 months followed by a research project over 12 months.
Faculty:
The program will be taught by a global faculty of experts from leading Universities and
pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry.
Scope of training:
The course will cover key modules that include: Drug Discovery and Design, Preclinical Pharmacokinetics, Clinical Trials in Drug Development, Analytical Technologies in Drug Discovery and Development, Drug Formulation and Manufacturing, Synthesis and Manufacturing of Active and Non-Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, Pharmaceutics Ethics, Legal and Regulatory Affairs, Laboratory Management and Quality Assurance, Research Methods and Biostatistics, Production and Value Addition to Medicinal Natural Products, Biologics Drug Development, Drug Safety, Pharmacovigilance, Regulatory and Quality Compliance, and Pharmaceutical Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Career Prospects:
Graduates of this program may be employed as experts in drug discovery and development industries, as regulatory experts in medicines control authorities, academics, research and development scientists in pharmaceutical industries and academic institutions, clinical researchers in clinical research organisations, manufacturers in pharmaceutical industries. They can be consultants and entrepreneurs in pharmaceutical medicine and technology.
Scholarships:
Ten (10) qualifying students will be awarded a full scholarship that covers:
Two return air tickets (one per year) to the home country,
Registration fees,
Full board accommodation that provides breakfast, lunch and dinner,
To and from transport from residence to AiBST
Medical aid cover.
Candidates are expected to take care of their other daily requirements not covered by
the scholarship.
The scholarships are provided by the International Science Program (ISP) in Sweden.

Master of Science in Genomics and Precision Medicine
This program is designed to advance the scientific and technical knowledge and translational capabilities required for drugs and diagnostics innovations in the fight against the persistent challenge of infectious diseases and emerging burden of noncommunicable diseases.
Graduates of this program will be able to harness the power of genomics for public health precision medicine solutions, thus enable sub-Saharan Africa to achieve the SDGs and African Union’s Agenda 2063 goals on health and wellbeing.

Career Prospects:
Graduates of this program may become Drugs, Vaccines and Diagnostics Research and Development Scientists, Regulators. Graduates may also be Entrepreneurs involved in the development and commercialisation of biomedical products for technology licensing or new company formation through technology and transfer processes. They can also be competitive candidates for doctoral studies.
