Certification Requirements

Certification Requirements (NDHET Policy)
In order for a student to be certificated, at Levels 2, 3 and 4, he/she must have obtained at least:

  • 40% – English First Additional Language
  • 30% in Mathematical Literacy or Mathematics
  • 40% in Life Orientation
  • 50% in each of the four vocational subjects

Condemnation
A condemnation of a maximum of one (1) fundamental subject will be applied as follows:
If a student obtains less than 40% in English First Additional Language or Life Orientation, his or her result
may be condoned by a maximum of 5% to the required promotion requirement of 40% in that language subject or Life Orientation. If a student obtains less than 30% in Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, his or her result may be condoned by a maximum of 5% to the required promotion requirement of 30% in Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy.

Duration


The duration of the National Certificate (Vocational) at Level 2, 3 or 4 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for full-time students is a minimum period of one (1) year. A maximum period of three (3) end-of-year examinations will be allowed for the successful completion of all subjects at any level.
In order to progress at Port Elizabeth College (PEC), from one level to the next a student must pass

  • Five subjects on one level in the November examination
  • A maximum of 3 years is permitted to pass all subjects at any level. A student will not be re-admitted to the programme if this requirement is not met.
  • A student may not carry any Level 2 subjects, in order to progress to Level 4.

If a student fails to write an examination in November examination sitting, without a valid reason doctors Certificate, he/she will not be allowed to write the examination in February of the following year. If a student fails a subject in the November examination and the supplementary examination immediately following that he/she is required to re-generate an Internal Continuous Assessment (ICASS) mark and reregister for the following November examination.
