At the University of the Free State (UFS) Department of Basic Medical Sciences, we are committed to providing each student with a solid anatomy and physiology foundation to launch their careers.
Subject-specific training
We provide quality, subject-specific, integrated modular teaching for the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Allied Health Professions, and the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. Our dedicated staff focus on excellent teaching, continued curriculum development, and thorough administration. We are proud of our integrity and honesty in the field of research.
Training and Education
Students from the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Allied Health Professions and the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences are trained in the department. Education students can take Physiology as a didactic subject. The department trains more than 1400 undergraduate students every year. Postgraduate training is offered by structured courses with exams or dissertations.
The vision of the Department of Basic Medical Sciences is to be a national leading and international acknowledged department with a holistic approach to integrated teaching and learning, as well as quality research.
