Who is the School of Accountancy?
We host the programme for Training of Accountants and are one of the larger academic departments at the University of the Free State. The School of Accountancy operates within the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences.
Five different disciplines are offered in the school:
- Financial Accounting
- Management Accounting and Financial Management
- Auditing
- Taxation
- Computer applications/controls
The school was founded in 1992 when the name of the Department of Accounting was changed to Centre for Accounting. The School of Accountancy is proud to be accredited with a ‘1’ grading by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). The University of the Free State is one of only six universities in South Africa with such a quality grading.
Associations
The School of Accountancy is also proud to be associated with other international accounting bodies. A cooperation agreement also exists with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) to deliver an Honours degree in harmony with their Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting. The School of Accountancy is also closely related to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA).

To provide excellent programmes which are accredited by the various international bodies within the accountancy profession.

The delivery of the programmes within the School of Accountancy is characterised by a culture of professionalism, effectiveness, and a code of ethics.
