University of the Witwatersrand Faculties of Health Sciences – See Details Below:
The University of the Witwatersrand Faculty of Health Sciences, located in Johannesburg – the hub of the South African economy, offers a real-world training experience that prepares students for a future in the healthcare sector across the globe.
Established for just over a century, the Faculty of Health Sciences has long been regarded as one of most reputable institutions for health sciences education in sub-Saharan Africa.
The Faculty and its associated entities and partners provide a vibrant environment within which some of the best research in the world is undertaken.
In partnership with the Gauteng Health Department and the National Health Laboratory Service, we employ over 1100 medical and dental consultants who are involved in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates and in the research programmes, with a further 330 staff employed by the Faculty. We graduate approximately 1200 students each year.
Our students receive academic training and practical experience in five major hospitals in Johannesburg, the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre as well as several clinics and rural hospitals in Gauteng. As part of the University of Witwatersrand’s academic teaching hospital complex, the role of the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre is to assist clinicians with all aspects of their clinical research.
