You may apply for a maximum of three programmes (order of choice does not matter).

If you apply for two programmes within one Faculty, you are advised to apply for one programme in a less restricted faculty (e.g. Humanities, Commerce or Science).

Try to keep your options open, especially when applying for programmes in Faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
- Do not enter the duration of the programme. You are applying to go into 1st year of study.

A non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens, and R700 for foreign citizens, is required.

How to pay

- Pay by cash or credit card at the Wits Fees Office, Ground Floor, Solomon Mahlangu House (Senate House), Braamfontein Campus East, Jorissen Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, South Africa. Use your person/student number as a reference.
- EFT – Use your Person/Student number as the reference.

Current Matriculants: Upload your final Grade 11 results.

Already Matriculated: Upload certified copies of all your matric certificates/foreign school leaving certificates.

Other Tertiary Institutions: Upload a certified copy of official academic records for ALL tertiary registrations, inclusive of statement/certificate of good conduct, stamped by the institution’s registrar. (Note that interim, self-service generated results will be considered for initial assessment purposes for GEMP applicants ONLY).
University of the Witwatersrand Application Forms General regulations
Unless the special permission of the Senate is obtained, no person may be registered as a student of this University while he/she is registered as a student of another university.
The special permission of Senate is also required to register in the same academic year for more than one degree or diploma in the same faculty. In addition, no person may register in the same academic year as a student in more than one faculty unless the written authority of the Deans concerned is obtained.Whilst the University makes every effort to ensure that the information published here is accurate, we reserve the right to make changes to (1) the programmes on offer, (2) the curricula programme, and (3) the offering schedule and calendar.
Submission of supporting documents
Applicants are required to upload supporting documents before being able to submit the online application. Note that this does not apply to the Application Fee, SAQA certificate of evaluation, or the Final Academic Record which can be uploaded at a later stage via the student self-service portal https://self-service.wits.ac.za/ – click on Student Centre tile.
Wits University
Applicants who are or have been registered students at Wits University and have not studied elsewhere are not required to submit a copy of their Wits academic record.
South African Universities (copies of official academic records, including a certificate/statement of good conduct, from all institutions you were registered at are required)
Note:
If you are or have been registered as a student at another South African university please note the following:- All documents need to have been certified within the last 3 months.
- Examination results or credit certificates are not sufficient.
- If you are currently completing a degree you can upload a copy of your interim transcript, and then upload your official final academic record when it is available at the end of your degree.
- Should your application be successful based on the uploaded/electronic certified supporting documents, you will not be required to submit certified hard copies of academic qualifications (academic record/s, graduation certificate/s) to accept an offer due to the current Coronavirus outbreak and lockdown. However, the University will verify any information/documentation submitted and in the event that any fraudulent document/s and/or other misrepresentation has been provided, will immediately cancel your registration, record such action against your record, and report the matter to the South African Police Service as per the revised Legal Declaration of Indemnity and Undertaking.
Foreign Universities (copies of academic records from all institutions you were registered at are required)
If you have been or are at present a registered student at a university or similar institution outside the Republic of South Africa, please note the following:- All documents need to have been certified/notarised within the last 3 months.
- Examination results or credit certificates are not sufficient.
- You may be asked to submit full details of the syllabi of previous degrees to assist with the evaluation of the application.
- Documentation not issued in English must be accompanied by an originally sworn translation, signed by a Notary Public. The IELTS proof of English proficiency will also be required.
- Should your application be successful based on the uploaded/electronic certified supporting documents, you will not be required to submit certified hard copies of academic qualifications (academic record/s, graduation certificate/s) to accept an offer due to the current Coronavirus outbreak and lockdown. However, the University will verify any information/documentation submitted and in the event that any fraudulent document/s and/or other misrepresentation has been provided, will immediately cancel your registration, record such action against your record, and report the matter to the South African Police Service as per the revised Legal Declaration of Indemnity and Undertaking.
