REGISTRATION AND ACCREDITATION STATUS

The Further Education and Training (FET) Act, 98 of 1998 constituted all FET institutions in South Africa and includes public as well as private Colleges that offers programs on the FET and the Higher Education and Training (HET) bands of the National Qualification Framework (NQF). The FET Act was amended by Act 16 of 2006 and is now called the Continuous Education and Training (CET) Act, 16 of 2006(as amended).
Western College (Westcol) is one of 50 public TVET Colleges that forms part of the Department of Higher Education and Training in terms of this act. CET Act.

Western College are listed in the CET Act and is included as a TVET College on the list of Public Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges. Public TVET Colleges are not required or issued with registration number – only private FET colleges are expected to register with the Department of Higher Education.
Technical Colleges changed its names from a Technical Colleges in the 1980’s to FET Colleges and again to TVET Colleges. These changes correlated with the changes in legislation.
Westcol TVET College offers various National Certificates in the Business, Engineering and General fields of study and have registered Examination Centers at Campuses.
Westcol enjoys various other accreditations as well.

Westcol reserves the right to discontinue a programme based on insufficient student numbers or to move it to another campus

Please carefully read the following before proceeding to apply:

STEP 1:
You need an active e-mail account as we will be communicating with you through emails.
STEP 2:
You must continuously check your email to ensure that you do not miss any communication.
STEP 3:
All documents to be submitted should be originallycertified copies and the certification should not be older than 6 months.
STEP 4:
Please make sure that you scan the documents in PDF format:

  • Grade 12 certificate/Statement of results/Latest school report/DHET certificate
  • ID document
  • Proof of residence
STEP 5:
Please read the admission requirements for each course before applying:

Engineering Studies
NCV Studies

STEP 6:
To ensure success you must submit all the required information and documents.
 
STEP 7:
Keep your keep your login and password details safely as you will need them to track your application on the portal.
STEP 8:
The following steps should be followed:
Step 1:  Complete the online PLACEMENT ASSESSMENT.
Step 2:  Complete the APPLICATION SCORING POINTS (APS) SYSTEM
 
You will then be directed to the APPLICATION PORTAL.
STEP 9:
Any false information provided shall lead to your application being disqualified.
