Chinhoyi University of Technology Department of Biology

Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Biology

About

In view of life that is increasingly being faced with challenges such as disease outbreaks, climate change, pollution and food insecurity; the Biology Department is convinced that offering cutting-edge training and engaged research across diverse subject areas of Biological Sciences is vital towards the development of effective intervention strategies. In relation to this, we expose students to the treasures uncovered by life changing biological research and discoveries, through a process that is anchored on comprehensive foundational courses during the first two years of study. This is complemented by a diverse set of advanced courses packaged under well thought majors during the final year. During the third year of study students are exposed to work related learning/industrial attachment at companies of interest. The programme provides the students and staff with the opportunity to learn and perform research in a highly integrative and interactive setting in areas spanning developmental biology, cell biology, molecular biology, ecology, biomedical sciences, evolutionary biology, genetics, bioinformatics, plant and animal sciences. We believe that by applying a research informed teaching approach with a strong emphasis on practical activities our degree programme is second to none. The expected product is that of an innovative graduate with sound understanding of biological concepts and good practical skills.
