About the Department

Introduction

Economics today is the basis of a worldwide industry concerned with almost every aspect of life, including trade, poverty, standard of living, growth and development etc. Economics provides the key to Industry and Commerce, the business environment and socio-economic development. The department of Economics has been playing its role by imparting knowledge and adding to it by way of research since its formation in 2004. In its bid to reduce risk and vulnerability of supply chains, reduce corruption and promote professionalism, the department launched the Bachelor of Commerce degree in Purchasing and Supply in 2010. This programme has attracted interest from procurement specialists who have pursued studies through block release. The programme has also generated interest from school leaving candidates who enrol on full time basis.

The department of Economics seeks to produce an all round Economist and Purchaser who can vastly and competently contribute towards the ever changing national and global economic landscape.

Mission

The Economics Department exists to promote knowledge that will improve the development and socio-economic well-being of people in Zimbabwe as well as support the development, survival, resilience and success of business, governmental and non governmental institutions by teaching and researching in robust supply chains. We seek to produce highly acclaimed graduates equipped with social and business entrepreneurial skills to pursue innovative solutions to socioeconomic and business problems.
