Midlands State University International Students Entry Requirements

GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For admission to programmes of study at MIDLANDS STATE UNIVERSITY for any first degree, a student must have the following qualifications in the Cambridge School examination or equivalent:

Other than the required passes in relevant subjects at GCE A Level or equivalent, all applicants must have passed 5 ‘O’ Level subjects or equivalent including English Language and Mathematics at grade C or better for the Faculties of Science and Technology, Commerce, Natural Resources Management and Agriculture and the Department of Geography. Passes in Biology and Mathematics at ‘O’ level are required in the department of Psychology. For all other programmes applicants should have done ‘O’ level Mathematics and attained a grade ‘E’ or better.

English Language Competency

Applicants are advised that English is the language of instruction at Midlands State University. Qualifying applicants from non- English speaking background are required to register for a one-semester Intensive English programme prior to starting their degree.

COUNTRY SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The following is a list of requirements for one to be enrolled in an undergraduate degree programme at Midlands State University. Please note that for one to be enrolled in any postgraduate degree programme one has to satisfy basic ordinary level qualifications and a good first degree and PhD studies a good pass Masters Level will be requested. Please note that these are just general entry qualifications as they may be variations from department to department.

South Africa

South African National Senior Certificate	Atleast 5 passes including English but excluding Life Orientation with atleast achievement level 4 per subject (achievement level 4 which means 50%)

Namibia

Qualifications	Details
Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate (NSSC)	A minimum of 23 points at no more than 3 sittings and atleast a C in the English Language as a Second Language and a D in English as a first language

Botswana

Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE)/equivalent	Qualification with at least six subjects NOT below a grade of E. A pass in English is a prerequisite.

Swaziland

South Sudan

Ugandan National Examinations Board	Qualifications should include 5 UCE passes and at least 2 principle passes at UACE level. English is a prerequisite

International students from non- English speaking countries are expected to do an English bridging course with the Department of Modern Languages. The Department also provides assistance to all International Students who might require improving elements in English proficiency.
