MUAST Faculty of Earth & Environmental Sciences

Earth and environmental sciences are aimed at interpreting Earth’s dynamic history—its age and origin as recorded in rocks and the landscape—and at understanding how geological processes affect modern environmental and ecological systems.

Among the natural sciences, Earth and environmental Sciences is an interdisciplinary science that provides vital perspective on how Earth’s physical and geochemical pattern both sustains and threatens life, and influences human interactions with Earth.

The Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) offers 3 undergraduate degree programmes housed in 3 operating departments; Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science and Technology and  Wildlife and aquatic ecology.

Our programs emphasize strong foundations in natural, physical, and social sciences, foster critical thinking and communication skills, and incorporate cutting edge field, laboratory, and computational methods. Our degree programs incorporate research experience and we encourage students to pursue internship opportunities.

.The degree programmes are designed to prepare graduates for careers in environmental studies and resource exploration (petroleum, minerals), or for related careers in such fields as land use planning, teaching, law, or engineering. Programmes also provide students with an understanding of man’s impact on the environment and how those impacts can be controlled or mitigated.

Students completing these degree programmes should be able to recognize environmental problems and understand control and preventative measures. Student research programs in the Faculty employ field, analytical, and experimental methods.
