Violence Prevention through Urban Upgrading NPC
VPUU NPC is a Public Benefit Organisation implementing multi-sectoral integrated area based upgrading programmes of neighbourhoods in townships and informal settlements. This is done in partnership with communities, municipalities, provincial and national government.
We work in an integrated team of community participation, socio economic development, operation and maintenance, spatial planning and design, infrastructure development, and knowledge management towards sustainable urban neighbourhoods. For our team we are looking for
Part-time Professional Architect 3-4 days per week
12 months Fixed term contract
Job Purpose:
Development of Spatial and Architectural Plans aligned to VPUU methodology and strategy.

Key Performance Areas:

Assist and develop Conceptual design, design development and Technical Drawings of Strategic Public Buildings and public space to work with implementation and Community Action Plans aligned to VPUU methodology and strategy and National Building Regulations
Assist Contract administration of Architectural projects from Stage 1 to stage 5 of SACAP Architectural Projects i.e. design to implementation on site using JBCC.
Assist and present Spatial Plans and Building Plans/Architectural designs to key stakeholders.
Site and community mapping and investigation of local context to develop base layers for Safe Node Area/s at both urban and architectural scales.
Collection, research, review and analysis of urban implications per Safe Node Area/s
Develop 2D and 3D graphic presentation of Spatial & Building Plans including models, posters and other tools (games) to work with community stakeholders
Reporting/documentation of Architectural Plans, Spatial Plans and Urban Design related work according to specific aspects of work e.g. tender process etc.
Research documentation of Architectural and Urban Design work/projects to show best practice

Requirements:

Masters in Architecture
Pr.Arch professional registration with SA council for Architectural Profession (SACAP) is mandatory
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Architecture from concept design to implementation
Experience in project/construction management
Good report writing skills and good English
Special Skills, Mental or Personality Requirements:
Technical drawing skills
Knowledge of MS Office software, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite [at minimum InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop], AutoCAD, Sketch-Up
Speaking Xhosa and Afrikaans advantage
Facilitation skills and experience in community participation advantage
Valid Driver’s Licence
