UNDERGRADUATE APPLICANTSApplications for undergraduate study are closed. No late applications will be considered.

National Benchmark Tests

Most undergraduate applicants who normally reside, or have completed/are completing schooling, in South Africa must write the NBTs. Applicants applying for admission to a programme only in the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment are not required to write the NBTs. Applicants applying for admission to a programme in the Faculty of Health Sciences must write the NBTs, wherever they may reside. If you wish to be considered for a conditional offer by the Faculty of Health Sciences, you must write the NBTs by 31 July ; if you write the NBTs after 31 July, you will only be considered for an offer in early after your final examination results are received. The final date in writing the NBTs for admission to UCT is 15 October .

Registration for the NBTs, which includes the selection of a test mode, date and, where appropriate, a venue, must be completed online with the National Benchmark Test Project.

Financial Aid

South African undergraduate applicants for need-based funding must submit their applications online to the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

Please remember to submit your application as soon as possible after starting the online application.

Applicants who need financial assistance must submit their applications on the NSFAS online application system. Applications are now open and close in November. Applications must be completed at http://www.nsfas.org.za/content/how-to-apply.html.

POSTGRADUATE APPLICANTS

Postgraduate programmes containing coursework mostly close in October, with the exception of a few programmes and faculties which start to close from May onward. Please refer to the 2024 – 2025 Directions for Postgraduate Applicants for the relevant closing dates.

SEMESTER STUDY ABROAD (SSA) APPLICANTS

SEMESTER STUDY ABROADFirst semester: applications open in the first week of August and close on 31 October of the preceding year.

Second semester: applications open in the second week of January and close on 30 April of the same year.

Please remember to submit your application as soon as possible after starting the online application.

The SSA programme is offered to international students who are pursuing a degree elsewhere and plan to study abroad at UCT for a semester or two for the purposes of international credit mobility. Upon completion of the UCT semester course load, the credits can be transferred to their degree at their home university. SSA credits do not count toward a UCT qualification.
SSA application cycle:

Second semester (which runs from early July to late November): applications open in the second week of January and close on 30th April of the same year.

• TERM 2: Applications open on 1 August and close on 15 November.
