COURSE OVERVIEW

The focus of the Master of Management programme is the formulation, design, conducting and completion of a research project in the field of management.
Option 1 is Research based & Dissertation OR Option 2 is Coursework & Mini-dissertation/Article

QUALIFICATION OUTCOMES:
  • To develop the managerial competencies of the student by encouraging critical thinking and enable the student to refine analytical and leadership skills, creativity, emotional intelligence and teamwork.
  • To refine and improve the student’s ability to identify, collect, present and disseminate research findings.
  • To improve the student’s organisation by applying his/her knowledge and create competitive advantage.
  • To analyse complex issues within or regarding organisations, to evaluate alternative solutions, appreciate and contribute to the development of the responsibilities that businesses have towards society in general, local communities and the environment.

 

FURTHER STUDY OPPORTUNITIES: 

Successful completion of the Master of Management enables further studies towards the Doctor of Management (NQF 10) or an equivalent NQF level 10 programme.

Supervisors are appointed to provide guidance and student support during the research process.
Student support is enhanced through our online interactive communication tool, electronic documents and websites, e-journals and e-books, management related videos, interactive feedback and supportive communication at all times.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

THE ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR THE MASTER OF MANAGEMENT ARE:

 

  • a STADIO formerly Southern Business School BBA Honours degree; or
  • a relevant postgraduate diploma*; or
  • a Bachelor Honours degree in a cognate field with an average mark of:

Option 1: 65% for Research Based applications and
Option 2: 55% for Coursework applications

(Intensive exposure to the various disciplines of management (at least 5 subjects) is required)

 
In addition, applicants need to:

  • Have minimum of four (4) years work experience in a managerial capacity;
  • Be proficient in English;
  • Be computer literate;
  • Have access to the internet;
  • Have access to a personal computer or the laptop; and
  • Have conducted academic research before.
*Should an applicant apply with a postgraduate diploma in policing on NQF level 8 (minimum 120 credits), please note that he/she must also have a B-degree.

COURSE CURRICULUM

OPTION 1: RESEARCH BASED & DISSERTATION

  • Completion of dissertation / research project
  • To be completed in a minimum of two (2) years
  • Consists of a compulsory postgraduate induction session

OPTION 2: COURSEWORK & MINI-DISSERTATION/ARTICLE

  • This option consists of six modules (a maximum of three modules per semester).
  • All six modules must be completed before starting with the mini-dissertation.
  • The mini-dissertation must be based on one of the six modules.
  • Consists of a compulsory postgraduate induction session
